GlobeMed at Emory is working in partnership with the MAP Foundation, a nonprofit organization that focuses on improving the well-being of refugees from Myanmar. The majority of the campaign funds will be dedicated towards the Grass Roots Onsite Work Internship program, where a group of 5 Emory GlobeMed members will have the opportunity to work directly with the MAP foundation for 6 weeks in the Summer of 2023.
We aim to aid MAP in creating safe and equitable working environments and to provide translation, legal, and counseling services as well as education outreach programs about financial security, access to education, sexual and reproductive health rights, and protection from all types of exploitation to ultimately empower Myanmarese refugees.
Even if our campaign does not meet the dollar goal, we still hope to support the GROW internship, even if that may mean that the program transitions to an online format. The funds that remain after contributing to our yearly fundraising goal of $5,000 for MAP will help pay for our travel expenses to local outreach events at homeless shelters, food pantries, and other organizations in the Atlanta area that support refugees and these funds will also be utilized to promote our fundraisers including our annual Thai Teahouse fundraiser.
We will get one step closer to having what we need to sustain and stabilize these communities with your help. We are incredibly grateful to you for your generosity in enabling our efforts and service.
