Campaign Mission

Heart disease is the number one cause of death in women, but it is preventable with the proper screening, counseling, and lifestyle changes. Our mission is to provide free cardiovascular risk screenings, education, and resources for follow-up care to decrease heart disease and hypertension in women, especially African American women who experience higher death rates from heart disease. The Emory Women’s Heart Center is committed to screening 10,000 women.

What we do 

The 10,000 Women Project, an initiative of the Emory Women’s Heart Center, provides free cardiovascular risk screenings throughout the community at local churches, community centers, and special events. With the increased incidence of hypertension in African American women, our initiative is focused on reaching this population. In addition to being screened for hypertension and other cardiovascular risk factors, each participant will receive education on the risk factors of cardiovascular disease and resources for follow-up care. A six-month follow-up phone call to each participant will be completed by a registered nurse or advanced practice provider. The 10,000 Women Project provides a much-needed community service while gathering research data to help us save lives in the future.

Why your support matters

Heart disease is the number one cause of death in women, but it is preventable. Screening women, educating them on the risk factors for heart disease, and closely monitoring them will help to decrease the prevalence of heart disease and hypertension in women, especially in the African American community where the risk is higher. Our clinicians and staff donate their time and expertise to help these women. More than 300 volunteers have participated in the project this past year, which shows true dedication from the Emory community. Your support can help us reach our goal of touching 10,000 lives.
