The Farm Worker Family Health Program is an inter-professional, immersive learning collaboration that addresses urgent and primary health care needs of migrant farmworkers and their families while providing students invaluable educational training and service-learning experience.
Since its inception 29 years ago, the FWFHP has served more than 15,000 workers and their children. Each year, vitally needed clinical services are provided to the 600+ individuals who would likely go without health care. In an intensive, low resource outreach setting that also serves as part of the clinical training programs of the participating universities, students and faculty in the health professions deliver preventative and episodic health care in a two-week period each summer.
The Farm Worker Family Health Program brings critical health services directly to farmworkers and their families during the summer months when the migrant population is at its peak in Georgia.

Utilizing students and faculty in the health professions, preventative and episodic health care is delivered in a two-week period each summer in an intensive outreach setting that also serves as part of the students’ clinical training. Participants include Emory School of Nursing (which prepares graduate nurse practitioners and undergraduate nurses in rural health), physical therapy programs, dental hygiene programs, and pharmacy programs. These students, participate in Service-Learning in rural health, earn direct patient care clinical hours, gain invaluable clinical and cultural insights while delivering important community-based health services to an underserved group where they are most needed and where the population is most accessible: in the fields, camps, and school setting.
Farmworkers are among the most poverty-stricken people in this country, yet they are responsible for the fruits and vegetables we serve on our tables. Our program provides hygiene kits, medications, gently used clothing, and other items for workers and their families. Your support can help raise funds to purchase these supplies. Your gift of $25 can help provide a foot care kit for a farmworker. This kit includes fungus powder, Gold Bond powder, flip-flops, nail clippers, and socks.
Your gift of $50 can help provide an environmental kit for a farmworker. This kit includes a reusable water bottle, a cooling neck towel, and a hat to block sunlight from the farmworker’s eyes.
Your gift of $100 can help provide about 400 masks for the farmworkers to protect against the spread of COVID-19.
Your gift of $250 can help provide 3 nights of hotel stay for an interpreter to be on-site in Moultrie improving communication and understanding between the farmworkers and program participants.
Your gift of $500 can help provide toys and educational activities for 400 children of farmworkers. We hope to purchase jump ropes, coloring books, crayons, and more for the kiddos!
Your gift of $1,000 can provide over-the-counter medications such as anti-inflammatories, creams for fungus, and pesticide rashes for farmworkers and their families.
