Support St. Vincent Volcanic Eruption Relief

Lillian Carter Center for Global Health and Social Responsibility

The Lillian Carter Center for Global Health and Social Responsibility (LCC) serves as the hub of global education, research, practice and engagement in the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing (NHWSN). Our mission is to improve the health of vulnerable people worldwide through nursing education, research, practice and policy. The guiding philosophy of the Lillian Carter Center is reflective of the work of Mrs. Lillian Carter as both a nurse and social activist. The LCC focuses on enabling nurses to address key health problems and issues of underserved peoples and strives to provide a global health experience for all interested students at least once during their time as an Emory Nursing student.

St. Vincent Volcanic Eruption

The La Soufrière volcano on the Caribbean island of St. Vincent began a series of explosive eruptions on April 9, blanketing much of the island in ash and volcanic flows of molten rock and gas. The explosions at the volcano could continue for days or weeks, according to the UWI Seismic Research Centre. Thousands of people in St. Vincent and the Grenadines have fled their homes and are without clean water and electricity, resulting in a humanitarian emergency.

Help the LCC Support Those In Need

While our students and faculty are unable to travel due to COVID-19, the LCC will provide help to Vincentians directly affected by the ongoing volcanic eruption by purchasing and sending food and medical supplies. We will also support the shipping of materials to the island for distribution to the residents. Through several organizations, we will support logistics to get the materials to families in need.

Your gift to the LCC Relief Fund could help us provide much needed supplies such as:

  • Babies/Children: Clothing, baby formula, juice, baby wipes, pampers/diapers, coloring books/crayons, toys
  • Adults: Clothing, adult diapers, juice, sanitary napkins, food (rice, macaroni, sugar, salt, powered or tinned milk), cutlery, toilet paper, napkins, games (cards, dominos)
  • Other: Face masks, candles, first aid kits, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, detergent, dishwashing liquid, pain medication, disinfectant, flashlights

Please join us in providing resources to displaced families affected by the St. Vincent volcanic eruption and humanitarian crisis.
