During spring and fall breaks, Oxford students have worked on environmental preservation, volunteered at food pantries, and assisted with sustainability projects led by prisoners. Alternative Break blends fun, team bonding, and community engagement as students volunteer for community service agencies. These annual trips through the student-led Volunteer Oxford program also allow students to demonstrate leadership and experience social justice.
This past March, a group of 31 Oxford students spent their spring break serving non-profits in New Orleans and Memphis. The two teams worked on an urban farm, staffed a spring break camp for Memphis elementary students, and addressed environmental sustainability and food insecurity in New Orleans.
