Honoring Coach Hardin and our Thank You to You!

August 24, 2020

The 2020 Oxford Class Gift Committee (OCGC) members have chosen to make their gift to the Chaplaincy Emergency Fund in honor of Pernilla Hardin, Oxford’s head tennis coach. Coach Hardin has guided both the Oxford Eagles men’s and women's teams to five consecutive national championships, from 2015-2019. Both the men and women’s teams have earned all-academic team and individual awards as well. The NJCAA has named Hardin its Coach of The Year eight times. Outside of being an amazing coach, Pernilla Hardin exemplifies resilience, strength, and compassion in her service to Oxford’s students and community.

Sophomore Neha Ali chairs the OCGC, and says, “Coach Hardin is an amazing coach and human being, and the students are thankful to have her at Oxford College.” After Coach Hardin heard the news about the class gift being in her honor, she shared this positive sentiment -- “When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade”! The Zoom call with the OCGC members was hosted right after the news of Oxford being moved to virtual classes. Coach Hardin wanted the students to know that we have to roll with what is happening in the world and make the best of it.

Holding to tradition, the OCGC designs a shirt each year to commemorate the class gift. We will send this shirt to all donors who make a gift of $25 or more as a special thank you. All donors who make a gift of $25 or more in the month of August, will also receive an Emory branded mask.

As we enter the final week of our campaign, we invite you to join us in making a gift to the Oxford Class Gift in Coach Hardin’s honor. We thank you in advance for the resounding impact your support will make!

Your generosity changes lives at Oxford!

August 07, 2020

Whether you made a gift to the Oxford Class Gift earlier this year or recently through our Momentum crowdfunding campaign, we thank you again for making a gift to support a cause at Oxford that is dear to you – the Oxford College Class Gift!

The culmination of gifts made to the Oxford Class Gift campaign will support the Oxford Chaplaincy Emergency Fund for 2020-2021. This fund benefits the entire Oxford community by providing confidential assistance to students, staff, and faculty who have financial need in a time of emergency or crisis. Oxford's Chaplain, Lyn Pace 02T 17T, oversees the fund which has assisted students with textbook purchases, travel needs related to an emergency or funeral, specific bills, and medical-related expenses, among other needs. Although the Emory Together Fund has been able to supplement some of these needs for students during the pandemic, the Chaplaincy Fund is an additional source that Oxford students can access.

We are so close to our goal, but more importantly, we want to get as many members of the Oxford community involved as possible. To amplify your impact, please share why you donated to the Oxford Class Gift via Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn and encourage your family and friends to join you!
