Elizabeth “Liz” Idell Kelly, a bright and kind student, passed away unexpectedly during her enrollment in the Master of Medical Science Program in Anesthesiology at Emory University School of Medicine. While Liz suffered from a severe eating disorder for over a decade, as an anesthetist-in-training, she discovered a newfound confidence and reason to be. She was driven by big dreams to work in the Trauma Center at Grady.
Liz went above and beyond in every one of her responsibilities as a student. She clocked the most volunteer hours in her class at the hospital, going in on her off days to observe rare and complicated surgeries. She had a profound drive to learn all that she could in her time at Emory and become the best at what she did.
Emory University School of Medicine invites you to further Liz’s legacy by making a gift to endow the Elizabeth Idell Kelly Scholarship. Liz was very giving of herself to others – she had a passion to serve the underserved. As an endowed fund, the Elizabeth Idell Kelly Scholarship will be awarded to a senior student in the AA Program who demonstrates similar hardworking spirit and generosity of self in perpetuity.
By giving through this campaign, your gift will be designated for the Elizabeth Idell Kelly Scholarship within the Gifts Pending- MED Endowed Scholarship, a holding account until the $250,000 endowment threshold is achieved. Should the minimum funding required to endow the scholarship not be secured by August 2024, gifts will be redirected to an expendable scholarship fund for the same purpose.
Her family knows Liz loved being part of the anesthesia care team and the crucial role of Anesthesiologist Assistants in the anesthesia and care of critically ill patients. She would be delighted and forever proud to know that her lasting legacy was helping her peers in a profession for which she had such a deep affection. Her family hopes this scholarship will honor Liz's warrior spirit by rewarding those students that display the same passion for her chosen profession.
