Thank you for your interest and support for the Emory Global Perioperative Alliance!

December 22, 2022

With your help last year, EGPA was able to provide life-changing surgery and medical treatments to the people of Sololá, Guatemala. As a fully student-run, faculty supported organization, EGPA relies entirely on financial support from people like you to purchase surgical and medical supplies, recruit personnel, travel as a team, and provide safe care for a population with immense unmet medical needs. Last year over 10 days in country, we were able to care for over 700 patients in OBGYN, ophthalmology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and general surgery clinics. Of those requiring surgery, we were able to perform 30 major and 30 minor surgeries in operating rooms built entirely from the ground up. Ophthalmology performed over 40 pterygium operations, restoring eyesight to the blind and significantly improving these patients’ quality of life.

Our partners in this endeavor deserve the utmost praise as this trip would not be possible without the dedication of our partners: HELPS international, Emory Departments of Anesthesia, Ophthalmology, Surgery, and Obstetrics and Gynecology, Emory Office of Global Health, our incredible Emory nurses and technicians, all of our friends, families, colleagues, and you who generously helped make this challenging endeavor a reality. So, thank you all for your part in EGPA’s success!

As we prepare for another year of medical service, we encourage you to consider supporting this meaningful cause as we return to Guatemala in June 2023 for larger and even more impactful mission. Visit our current campaign to learn more.
