Transform the Future

Innovation, entrepreneurship, and discovery are thriving at Emory University. From students who want to bring their ideas to life through the Hatchery to local business owners looking to level up with Start:Me, the Emory community depends on donors like you to keep ingenuity alive.

Impact of Your Gift

The Pathways Center Fund makes it possible for students to prepare for professional paths by integrating what they learn in the classroom with hands-on, high-impact experiences like internships, undergraduate research, intentional advising, and career services.

“The work I did had meaning. That’s a feeling I think everyone at Emory is searching for,” said Lucia Buscemi 21Ox 24C, who is paying her way through college. “Donors to this program are helping me clean up the Everest region and really making a difference in the world, with me.”

Buscemi received a stipend from the Pathways Center for travel and living expenses while working at the Himalayan Museum and Sustainable Park in Nepal. While there, she piloted a water filtration program that reduced the use of plastic in the region.

Start:ME is an intensive 14-week training program for promising local small businesses. Emory's Goizueta Business School faculty and students partner with community-based nonprofits to deliver the program to talented entrepreneurs who live in, work in, and/or provide valuable products and services to the local community. The program connects those entrepreneurs to knowledge, networks, and capital necessary to build and grow businesses.

Since 2013, Start:ME has helped more than 200 small businesses. These businesses, 84 percent of which are owned by people of color, make a BIG impact in the local neighborhoods of Clarkston, East Lake, Kirkwood, and Southside Atlanta. In addition to providing products and services to their neighbors, they employ more than 300 people and create income for business owners and their families.

The Hatchery supports innovation and entrepreneurship at Emory—across all schools and disciplines and at every stage of the journey. We empower Emory students with the skill sets and mindsets to be purpose-driven innovators and entrepreneurs.

Gifts to the Hatchery support student founders in The Hatchery Incubator program, which provides:

  • Micro-grants to allow students to build prototypes and test their business ideas
  • Guidance from subject matter experts in various sectors
  • Mentorship from successful founders, nonprofit leaders, and industry executives
