“This is about improving the lives and experiences of women and girls through work happening at Emory. But it’s also about collaborating with other women to make that happen. It is such an empowering experience to bring all these women together to make decisions that will change lives.”
–Lee Miller 82L, Board of Trustees member and Women of Emory Impact Circle Chair
Emory Impact Circles advance the causes of affinity groups through the power of collective philanthropic giving. The Women of Emory Impact Circle advances the causes of women and girls and the Black Emory Impact Circle advances the causes of Black communities. Projects initiated by Emory staff, faculty, and students will transform the lives of the people in these groups and beyond. Funding these initiatives relies on the generosity of donors at all levels. Every gift matters as the impact circles work together to pave new paths.
Through a donor-guided grant-making process, funds support philanthropic priorities across the university that advance the causes important to each Emory Impact Circle. To date, more than 20 grants have been awarded. One grant was awarded to the Oxford College’s Black Girl Processing Space, for example, a staff-led initiative designed for Black women to support each other personally, professionally, and academically.
The Student Hardship Fund was formed in 2011 to support Emory students facing unexpected financial difficulties. The fund aids both undergraduates and graduates at Emory University across all nine schools on the Atlanta and Oxford campuses. By providing financial assistance during catastrophic events such as a death in the family, unexpected job loss, uninsured medical expenses, and eviction, the fund allows Emory students to continue their education despite the obstacles they are facing.
The Student Well-Being Fund supports holistic health and wellness interventions. Gifts to the fund help increase staffing and expand programming in clinical care, case management, crisis response, and preventative care. Additionally, the fund supports educational programs and offers training opportunities for faculty and staff members on how to support and identify students who may need help.
