Global Brigades is an international student-led non-profit organization that works to save lives through increased access to health care and create sustainable health systems. The medical brigade trip is a 7-to-9-day trip that provides students the opportunity to observe and participate in medical care in rural mobile clinics in areas such as Honduras, Panama, Guatemala, Ghana, Belize, and Greece. Students work with licensed health care professionals to provide primary and dental care to rural communities through a sustainable and holistic approach. This year, a group of Emory students will be volunteering in Panama with a majority focus on the medical aspect while incorporating a dental component.
Global Brigades has empowered 13 communities with 1,505,135 patient consultations and have 91,111 volunteers since 2004. Over the years, Global Brigades has worked to improve healthcare access in communities to increase access to medical services for those in need. They also provide medical education and school education to break the cycle of poverty and improve the quality of life of the current and future generations. Additionally, the organization seeks to improve clean water sources in communities to reduce waterborne diseases. Lastly, the impact of Global Brigades can vary from community to community but the overall goal is to have a strong focus on sustainable development to build capacity and create a lasting change.
Your impact as a donor to the Global Brigades chapter allows us to invest every dollar into medical and dental supplies, living costs of volunteers, and flights to Panama. The goal is to create a long-term impact and positive change in the community, leading to improved living conditions, health, education, and economic opportunities. The money donated to the medical and dental care for the Panama Global Brigades trip will allow volunteers to create immediate and tangible benefits for the community.
