Emory Doctor of Physical Therapy is a graduate school program within the Allied Health Community. Emory DPT is committed to the continuing education and experiential learning of students by providing opportunities such as this trip to Bend, OR. Students in the program attending this trip have completed 8/9 semesters of the DPT program and have demonstrated a strong interest in working with the neurological patient population. This opportunity provides them the chance to broaden their experiences a gain valuable clinical experience to their development as future physical therapists.
Students taking Emory DPTs advanced neurorehabilitation elective can partake in a service-learning trip to experience outdoor rehabilitation with patients who suffer from neurological diseases. The group of students will be traveling to Bend, OR to spend a week working with staff and patients at Destination Rehab. Destination Rehab specializes in treating neurological disorders through outdoor dynamic and functional movements including adaptive outdoor sports such as canoeing, hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, group fitness events and much more. Destination Rehab treats patients of various neurological diagnosis including brain injury, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, and cerebral palsy. This opportunity will allow the students on the trip to experience a unique form of neurological rehabilitation and use these skills moving forward in their future careers as physical therapists.
Your donation is greatly appreciated and will assist our DPT students in their travel expenses such as cost of airfare, lodging, and food. In addition to providing travel support for students, your donation could purchase critical medical equipment that will help aid our service. When paired with physical therapy services, this equipment can make a lasting impact on the people we serve, as well as on their families, and their community.
A gift to this project is a donation to this organization’s general fund named, "Jamaica Department of Physical Therapy." Due to finances, this group had to change locations this year, but they plan to return to Jamaica in the future. While the group has stated their needs for funding, their leadership may use funds raised for any purpose consistent with their registered student organization mission at Emory.
This gift amount can help our students to pay for entry into recreational activities while in Oregon.
