At the Emory Department of Surgery, we continue to define the future of surgery through providing the best care, conducting innovative research, and training tomorrow's best and brightest. The heritage of the Department of Surgery is built upon a steady foundation of decades of surgical trainee alumni and faculty who have contributed towards the tripartite mission of the department and have created the Emory Surgery legacy as we know it today.

In 2021, we established the Galloway-McKinnon Alumni Society to allow those who have trained at the Emory Department of Surgery the opportunity to connect with the institution and deepen engagement with the Emory Surgery alumni community. Generous gifts to the Galloway-McKinnon Fund allow our department to continue to advance the educational legacy of the Department of Surgery and to provide opportunities for alumni to connect with each other and honor the people who guided them on their surgical training path.

We are currently celebrating the upcoming graduation of our chief residents. These 11 individuals have worked tirelessly to hone their skills and prepare themselves for independent practice. Guided by our dedicated faculty, the chief residents who graduate in June 2024 have weathered the challenges of training throughout the COVID19 pandemic and have proved themselves to be resilient, talented and fully capable of caring for future generations of surgical patients. Funds raised also support ongoing training opportunities such as simulation to further prepare our graduates for the future of surgery.
