Honoring the Legacy of Larry Young

Dr. Larry Young was a pioneer in the science of love, recognized as one of the world’s leading scientists in the neurochemistry of social bonding and a beloved teacher, advisor, mentor and colleague. With his unexpected passing in March 2024, Emory University and the scientific community lost a giant in the field of social neuroscience.

Emory University’s School of Medicine, National Primate Research Center, Neuroscience Graduate Program and Center for Mind Brain and Culture as well as representatives from the Atlanta neuroscience community are hosting a symposium in May 2025 to remember Dr. Young and honor his legacy: “Celebrating Larry Young: his Scientific and Mentoring Legacy.” The organizing team’s vision is to unite a diverse group of colleagues and trainees who credit Dr. Young for inspiring their research and to celebrate the breadth of his scientific impact.

To move from planning to implementation, we need your support.

All donations will help ensure the symposium reflects Dr. Young’s groundbreaking discoveries, including how oxytocin regulates social behavior, his commitment to better understand pair bond formation, parent-infant attachment, social relationships and empathy, and his research to identify novel treatments for psychiatric disorders characterized by disruption in social function, including autism spectrum disorder and schizophrenia.

Because of Dr. Young, a generation of social neuroscientists are making life-changing discoveries across the world, and Emory’s reputation for excellence in social neuroscience is unparalleled. Join us in remembering Dr. Young by making your gift now.

Thank you for your gift in memory of Dr. Larry Young. By giving to this campaign, you are helping remember a colleague, teacher, mentor and leader.

Gifts made through this page will be reflected on your receipt as going to the Behavioral Social Neuro Symposium.
