Celebrate Dr. Judy Greer’s 90th Birthday with a Gift to the Judy Greer Scholarship Fund

For nearly seven decades, Dr. Martha Judith “Judy” Greer has been a beloved figure at Oxford College—an educator, mentor, and leader who helped shape the lives of generations of students. As we prepare to celebrate her 90th birthday in September 2025, we invite you to honor her enduring legacy by supporting the Judy Greer Scholarship Fund.

Dr. Greer began her career at Oxford College in 1957—the same year the Class of 1959 arrived on campus. Over the years, she served in a wide range of roles: physical education instructor, women’s counselor, Assistant Dean of Students, and coach of the women’s tennis team. She also led intramural sports and championed student development with tireless dedication and deep compassion.

She earned B.A. degrees in English and history from LaGrange College, completed an M.S. in physical education from Winthrop University in 1961, and went on to earn her Ph.D. from the University of Georgia in 1972. She was promoted to full professor in 1982 and retired in 1996—leaving behind a legacy of excellence and empathy that continues to inspire the Oxford community.

In recognition of her profound impact, the Class of 1959 established the Judy Greer Scholarship Fund in 1995. Launched with an initial gift of $25,000, the endowment has grown steadily thanks to generous alumni and friends. Since 1996, the fund supported one student with a scholarship annually and in 2003, the fund started supporting two $10,000 scholarships annually. It is awarded to rising sophomores who embody Dr. Greer’s values of leadership, academic excellence, and community spirit.

Celebrating 30 Years of Impact

By 2026, the Judy Greer Scholarship will have empowered more than 50 Oxford students—and we’re just getting started. As we approach the 30th anniversary of the scholarship and Dr. Greer’s milestone birthday, our goal is to raise $90,000 to sustain and expand this important legacy.

Dr. Greer continues to reside in Oxford and remains a cherished presence at the college—maintaining friendships with former students, cheering on current scholars, and offering her trademark warmth and wisdom to all.
